This was a novel about working nurses in the United Kingdom. It followed around a significant number of nurses and their patients, in order to show the work that is put in to being a nurse.

The hospital that all of the nurses worked in was extremely understaffed, and constantly full of drama. One of the main characters, John Hunter, was over his head in work and it did not end there. On top of all of his work, he was experiencing drama with his new girlfriend as well as a tragedy from his past. He got in bad with the new matron and ended up having a case against him for giving a patient the wrong medicine. This makes him question if he even wants to continue working there or not.

The whole time while reading this story, I kept picturing a soap opera in my head. All of the drama in it kept lingering on like the continuations on daytime television. Some of it was interesting to read, but I thought that it never really got off the ground, and unfortunately, I never made it to a place where I just could not put it down.

I felt like the story had way too many characters in it, just thrown in for affect, and I got them confused after a while of reading, because I could not keep them straight, which was unfortunate. I had to keep flipping back to find out where the character originally came in the story, as well as their story. I know that these characters were put in the story to show how much work the nurses have to deal with, and I agree with that completely, but I feel like they should have just been mentioned without being named, or gone more in depth with them.

Another problem that I found in the book was that there were a few spelling and/or grammatical errors. Although it was not enough to make the book less enjoyable, it was definitely noticed.

Unfortunately, the end was the most interesting part of the story, and it kept me reading it. With that being said, I hated how this book ended. I wish I could have found out what happened in more depth to a few of the characters, including John. It feels almost as if there is a sequel, but nothing that I have searched has hinted anything like that.

I would rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. It really shows how much work a nurse puts in, but the rest of the storyline just fell a little flat for me.
