Your Heart Belongs To Me - My Review

Post by ACBaltimore »

Synopsis:

At thirty-four, Internet entrepreneur Ryan Perry seemed to have the world in his pocket—until the first troubling symptoms appeared out of nowhere. Within days, he’s diagnosed with incurable cardiomyopathy and finds himself on the waiting list for a heart transplant; it’s his only hope, and it’s dwindling fast. Ryan is about to lose it all…his health, his girlfriend Samantha, and his life.

My Thoughts:

This was an amazing read. Every element of a classic thriller abounds in this gracefully written novel. Koontz’ sets scenes that are vivid, detailed, creative and intriguing. Ryan and Sam are the love story that hides inside the ultimate storyline, but the love they share is an ever present part of this story. The reader is taken on a journey of self discovery, the desire to live and lengths one will go to make that happen. The characters are well written and feel very real as their nature is learned and maintained throughout. Cheeky, vulnerable, driven, confused and certain… there are many parts of each characters personality and Koontz does a fantastic job of helping the reader know them all.

This is not an easy one to figure out, there are many wide-eyed moments cleverly placed at the end of chapters. The story continues to unfold all the way to the last word in the book. You will find yourself engrossed in the characters and quickly start to root on and disapprove of their evolution throughout.

Subtext is always subjective to the reader; however, the underlying message in this novel seems clearly that of self-discovery, finding purpose and the human instinct/will to live.

All-in-all, this is a very complete home-run for Koontz. If I had any complaint, it would be that the story was a bit of a slow starter for around ten chapters.
