Ween me off sci-fi, please

Post by Colugo »

Hey folks,

First post: I'm a former Sci-fi enthusiast, who dabbled thankfully in serious literature, but then picked up Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle, Cryptonomicon and Anathem, and haven't been satisfied with any other lit or sci-fi since. Help me!!!! Has any kindred nerd out there come across anything that can rival Stephenson for historical detail, satisfying digressions, and wit?

Thanks,

Have you read Gene Wolfe? If not, try The Fifth Head of Cerberus and Peace.

If you like those, then continue with The Book of the New Sun series.

Fair warning, though. Gene Wolfe's simple prose will throw you. There is a lot more going on then at first glance. His books are not easy, but rewarding for those who are willing to reflect upon what they have read. He is famous for unreliable narrators.
