Dragon Faith By Richard Heard is a fictional book heavily based on the Christian religion and loosely based on mystery. The target audience would be religious and spiritual teenagers.
Dragon Faith is about one Christian family – The Sandy’s discovering the true meaning of Christianity and standing by their faith when it is called into question. The book describes how the youngest member of the family – a teenager with a bright future and just heading out to college deals with being a good Christian in the modern world where faith and spirituality are virtually non-existent.
As I always like to start off with the positive, the things that I like about this are: the events that Elroy Sandy encounters and deals with are normal day to day activities and scenarios that happen currently. It is easy to relate to as the author attempts to show one of the many ways in which we can deal with our day to day challenges.
It was a real struggle to finish this book for a number of reasons. The main one being the grammar, sentence structure and the way it is written. Starting with the first chapter, it felt like it was written for kids who were just starting to read and write rather than for the intended audience. The book was also written in third person and in a narrative format while it was clear that the author wanted the readers to see the events unfolding from Elroy Sandy’s point of view. This conflict made it hard to read and follow conversations in certain parts of the book. I had to go and re-read a sentence just to get things clear
If the formatting of the online version of this book was done correctly, it may have helped the book slightly but unfortunately, it fell short in that area as well. Quotes from the bible were grouped within paragraphs along with conversation quotes. There was no real structure or format that was consistently followed throughout.
Speaking of bible quotes, I would say that 50% of the book was just that! There is very little differentiating from the reading the bible and reading this book. It would have been better if the author were able to paint a picture to the readers of the various quotes that the bible was trying to convey rather than quoting it directly. If I wanted direct bible quotes I would be reading that not this book!
This plot and the subject that the author chose had real potential but failed in execution due to lack of descriptiveness in the events. For instance there is a real distinction between saying, “being held at gun point” and describing the scene and drawing the audience into the scene. The author was not adequately able to draw the readers into the various events and scenarios that were taking place in the book.
I would not recommend this book to anyone! I have seen many great stories on Jesus and Satan that has been truly inspirational to a non-Christian like myself but this book just doesn’t cut it. I rate this 1 out of 4 stars!
