Music can have the power to change lives, even if only for the duration of a song. I love music, I love dysfunctional families (in fiction, obviously!) So will definitely be giving this a read. Thanks for your review.

I love books that talk about the success of individuals despite their backgrounds.

This definitely sounds like a sweet and emotional, moving story. I'm already rooting for Joey as he fights his way to becoming a great trombonist dealing with family obstacles. It's not easy fighting with family and feeling second to his older brother John. I'm glad you enjoyed this book, it sounds like a poignant one.

A book which balances horrors of family life with the beauty of music sounds like a perfect read for me. The book title and cover looks catchy too.

I might pick up the book to read and learn from the challenges Joey faced to actualize his dream and how he overcame them. That might be helpful for growth. Great review!

Sounds like a really good read! I always love stories with well-developed characters. Seems like it has a good element of drama with Joey having to overcome a troubled family life. Also, as a trombone player myself, how could I resist?

It sounds like a truly inspiring story that proceeds in stages. Coming of age, a quest for success and finally attaining his life's dreams despite his rough beginnings. I don't know that I'll read the book, it sounds too close to a memoir but I'm sure lovers of the genre will enjoy it. Thank you for the excellent review!

Thank you Camille Turner for your review of Tears and Trombones by Nanci Lee Woody. You love the book and make no secret of this in your excellent comprehensive summary of the story line, characterization and plot. This review is a clear invitation for passionate people to read the book and get as emotionally involved with its main character, Joey, and his passion for music as you did. I, for one, will certainly read this book.

Tears and Trambones! What a name! I like that the story is a walk through a person's entire life right from childhood to adulthood and the many challenges he faced growing up. I'm very sure this will be helpful in the growth of others!

A coming of age story that follows a young man as he aspires to become a successful musician. His parents wish for a different path for him, but he's determined to pursue despite the hardships that life throws his way. It sounds like the author has put a lot of work into this story and includes some truly emotional scenes that pull at the heartstrings. I'm not an avid reader of fictional novels that follows a characters desire to become a successful musician so I think that I will pass on reading this book.
