Re: The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins

While at dinner with in-laws years ago, one of the teenagers was engrossed with the first book. I had recently heard of The Hunger Games, and I was even more curious about the series seeing her read the book at the table. After having a discussion regarding the book with said teenager, I decided to give it a try. I have finished the first and second books. I liked the storyline. I will admit .. I preferred the first one over the second. I am looking forward to reading Mockingjay :D

The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins is by far my favorite book series. I own all three books and have read them at least three times. I've seen the first movie and am excited to see the second movie when it comes out. The Hunger Games does not compare to other series such as Twilight. There is no team choosing in this series.

These books are amazing. I was gripped for days reading them in quick succession!
It really makes you feel as though this world of the Hunger Games exists.

I agree that The Hunger Games does not compare to the Twilight Saga. It appears to me much more realistic.

I read this series in order to better understand what my students found so fascinating. I found the initial premise of children killing other children quite disturbing and could not understand the attraction. As I read the books, I felt there was a much deeper meaning to the 13 societies. To me, they represented the political oppression that is found in our world. As you saw the level of what was provided for each section, you witnessed the unjust treatment, the lack of basic necessities and the imbalance of societies. I enjoyed the first book much better than the others. I felt by the third book there was a bit if stretching to complete the series. Overall, it was an interesting series, that managed to have many adolescents reading and discussing books.

I read all three of the Hunger Games book. The first one was my favorite, although I didn't necessarily not like the second or third book. I think with the first book, the plot flowed so well that I didn't put the book down until I finished it. The topic of this new America was so unique it just grabbed my attention. By the second book, I expected something better than the first and it was on the same level, not above it. By this I mean, it was like reading the same book with a different twist. I did enjoy the third book though, for the simple fact that it took place outside of "the games" and so provided a new setting for the characters and a chance for me to see them under a new light.

Love love love these books. First of all I love the whole background. Thought it was something new and not done. I also love how strong the main character of Katniss Ever seen. Talk about a role model for young girls. I love all the intricate relationships. I wasn't a huge fan of the second book. I liked it but it is definitely my least favorite (which for some reason is very common with any series I read). I also thought the movie was pone Of the best adaptations of a book i have ever soon. Definitely a series i can read more than once (and I have).

I loved these books. My daughter had to read the first one for her English class and had to do a project. I told her that I would read it as well so that I could help her with her project. Well, I enjoyed the book so much that I finished it in one day, and then I finished the other two books before she had even finished the first. These books kept my interest the whole time.

I was a bit surprised I hadn't heard of the Hunger Games until recently! I bought and read all three in a week! The thing that almost haunts me and gripped me about these books is the very nature of them. The fact that the concept is so horrific yet not entirely unbelievable for the future, with so many threats of how little we know about the government, aliens etc.

I got through this series pretty quickly although it was slow for me to start. I read it after the first movie had already been released and so many were telling me how great it was, how Katniss is the ultimate heroine. I admit, it was pretty good but I didn't think it was great. Katniss for me, was no great heroine. The story is a scary future where death is a game and no matter the age, you could be a goner. In this day and age, it could happen. I felt that the final book was a huge letdown. There were some points that I felt were entirely unnecessary.

I loved the Hunger Games series. It is very different to any other books i have read. I thought the first book was excellent and i couldn't put it down and ended up reading the three books in a weekend. The first book is extremely well written and has an almost drug-like effect on readers making them want to keep reading. I did however find the second book to be slower and less enthralling as the first, but it was still good. The third book, i found was almost like reading two different books. the first half of the book was slow and almost boring, but the second half was full of drama and twists and deaths galore. Overall a good trilogy, but perhaps would have been better as a two part series.

I first heard of this series from my sister, who sent me a Kindle for Cmas with all 3 books preloaded for my reading pleasure. I was dubious about starting a YA series, but decided the polite thing was to read them first and get them out of the way. From the first line, I was hooked. 24 hours later, I finished book 3 and wanted to cry because the amazing journey was over. These books were not just simply well-written, they also force us to confront political and social mores and ponder - honestly - what we may have done in the same situation. Catniss is such an amazingly strong character, and I keep hoping she will reappear in another series. If you have not yet read the books, READ THEM! The movie does them no justice.
You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me.

LOVED the first book. Not so much the second and not so much the third. When I reread them, I found out I did like them better

I'm not going to lie ;) I stared reading them and then it got to the killing. I just couldn't take it at that moment ( I was 2weeks post partum from my fist daughter). Since then, my hubs made me watch the movie so I got a better idea of what was going on.. Not too shabby. May still read the books.

I wasn't planning on reading the books since I have already seen the first movie, but after reading these posts I think I am going to read them :). From what it sounds like the series is really good so now I'm looking forward to getting started on them! I like that there are deeper issues in the book too and am interested.

I loved them, but the third book was just plain depressing. I've re-read each multiple times, but Mockingjay is one that I only go back to if I'm in a particularly robust emotional state- the first time I read it I was pretty down for a week or so.
