Due to your review I'm really interested in reading this novella. I've had some personal experiences with mental illness and alcohol abuse, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the author approaches these issues. Both mental health and alcoholism, along with drug addiction; are such pervasive problems in our society today that it will be interesting to read how De Vries portrays them to be in the 50's and 60's. Social views of the issues described have changed tremendously since that time. Thanks for your review and the warning about poor editing. I'll be reading my sample as soon as I'm done writing this evaluation. Congrats BOTD!

The reviewer makes this book sound interesting and worth reading although it is not the kind of book that I would normally choose. I have had a lot to do with people addicted to substances so this will be interesting for me to read.

I just added this book to my definitely interested in reading shelf because I want to read about how the characters deal with their mental illnesses. I would love to dive into the lives of the characters and see their challenges and hope they overcome it. Thank you to the author for making it free today!

This definitely sounds like an emotional and poignant story about how drugs and alcohol can really hinder your life. A lot of themes are explored. Great and thorough review!

Enticing, while referring to realistic problems, addictions and relationships. Normally I avoid any book which portraits mental issues, but this one's author seems to do well enough job to not confuse readers.

It is always a huge burden trying to assist people with alcohol addiction or any other addiction.

Sometimes if one is not careful, it is possible to find oneself facilitating that addiction.
It is my hope that the author has already sought assistance following the remarks made on this review.

This is a good review of the book Two Sheldon Iowa Summers and was helpful letting the audience know what the book is about. I read part of the book and was a little bit concerned that it would center on the main character's difficulty with his hallucinations, but I read on and found out he was from this small town and seemed to be just a normal kid. It was sad to me that he was having difficulty and fears about his future because of his mother and older brother who both had experienced mental illness. The reviewer, though, described a small town and people working together to help each other through difficult times and how this family survives having members who have mental illness.

I would have never though that a small town in Iowa would be so interesting. I agree with your rating and think that the formatting issues take away from the enjoyment of the story. I am glad that the author talked about issues that plague our society today such as mental illness and drug addiction. Most people would think that big cities have more problems than small towns, but this book shows that this is not the case.

I read a review and think that the topic of mental illness in the story is one that is not talked about.
It gives you an idea of someone who is suffering with different types of mental illness are treated in society and how it affects their community, their friends, and family. I don't know anyone personally who has suffered mental illness but I think more needs to be done to make people aware of the signs and symptoms so they can help someone they know get the proper care.

There used to be a show on t.v. called MONK that was about a detective who was obsessive compulsive and consulted on crimes to help solve murders. Also, one of my favorite movies was a film from the 80's called Rain Man. It starred Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman who played an Autistic man who lived in a facility. His brother Tom Cruise decided to take his brother on a road trip to Vegas and had Dustin Hoffman his autistic brother count cards and win him millions of dollars to pay off debt. It was a very good film and made people aware of Autism and how it affects people and their families. I am looking forward to reading this book to see what happens to all the characters.

Thanks for the insightful review. It sounds like you really enjoyed this book. I don't think that this book will be a good fit for me though. The blurb put me off because of how chaotic it came off. I couldn't get a solid idea for the story. Your review has helped, but this doesn't sound like a story that I would find engaging. I like how the characters are so well developed, but I don't think that reading about characters struggling with mental illness, drug problems, etc is a good fit for me. I think I'm going to pass on this book.

I like that mental illness, drugs, alcohol, and death play a role in this story and that they are very realistically described.
