This sounds like an interesting coming-of-age book that is written about the author as he grapples with weighty issues such as sexuality, grief and the things that go hand-in-hand with being an adolescent male. I also think it's important that mental health is addressed in the book. Thanks for the wonderful review.

Sounds like a book written regarding a sensitive topic with a lot of self-control. Congratulations on being BOTD and I am looking forward to read this one

These subjects seem a bit too heavy to read right now. I did enjoy the author’s voice in the opening pages about how he came to wrote the book, but the contents of this one just don’t appeal to me.

It is a fictional story inspired by the author's life. It is featured in five connected short stories about important aspects of the main character. Addresses sensitive topics about sexuality, drug use, and references to suicide.

Sounds like an interesting book. I have never read a book with the LGBTQ angle. This should be a good start. Congrats botd!

This is the fictional account of a young man growing up and discovering his sexuality. The story is emotionally charged. The characters are realistic and well developed. Congratulations to the author for being chosen as BOTD. Thanks to the reviewer for this interesting review.

Although coming of age books are not my typical read, this book sounds like it is well written, covering several issues relevant in today's society.

This book sounds fantastic. It's so important for kids that are dealing with similar issues to see themselves in published works.

Thanks for the great review! I really appreciate the clear warnings about the sexual content and suicide context. As a reader, I don't like to be 'surprised' by some heavy topics... I prefer to know before hand.
This book is going on my 'Want to Read' bookshelf.

This book teaches us to accept one another for who we are. Nobody knows what the other person is truly passing through so do the best to help in such situations. Great book!

I especially like McCollister's talent for crafting eloquent passages that invite rereading: "As soon as you spoke, I knew it was a perfect fit. Your name was beautiful, but Claire seemed to capture you, all of you. So fragile, mysterious, strong, and beautiful, all wrapped in a song-like package." In my favorite story, "The Beach at Sunset," McCollister poignantly reveals Conner's pain from a recent loss and how his buried grief affects his perception and interactions with others. On a lighter note, the story also makes me long for a day at the beach!
Your light-hearted comment made me smile :D
It's hard to capture a poignant story in such a few short stories, so the author must be talented, for sure.
Thank you for the enthusiastic review!
