So, this is not a memoir, but a historical fiction book based loosely on someone's real life? If so, it sounds like the child had it very hard, but there were some bright spots like the friends she made at the orphanage. I hope she was able to figure out a way to protect her 'little sister.' The book sounds interesting; I may have to give it a look. Thanks for the wonderfully written review!

But is she really unwanted, or she’s looking for acceptance from the wrong people?

What a great question and message!
A well-researched book is always the way to my heart!
We got that in common. Thanks for your comment, friend.

I'm glad you enjoyed my review. Thanks.

Sometimes life takes us to places we don't expect, places that are hard to come with. It sounds like Debbie is in one of those places, with challenges unique to her situation. I do wonder if she's related to Mary Ellen and why Beverly chose her to pick on, but I guess that's what reading the book is for.
