I am one of the very few people allowed to read the entire 'My Name is Kreussenheimer' story. Dale Preuss's writing style is unlike anything I've ever encountered. The first-person narratives from multiple points of view allow each character to be developed in intricate detail — the attribute that I admire most in any story. Kevin Kreussenheimer pulled me in like a powerful gravitational force, like those in his orbit.

It took several weeks to read the eleven individual short novels grouped into four volumes. It never seemed long; my anticipation always piqued. I waited impatiently for the final touches on the last volume. It did not disappoint. As Kevin is quoted, "Didn't see that coming."

The pacing of the series-wide ebbs and flows mirrors life: soul-crushing loss to high tension drama to the warmth of loving relationships to laugh-out-loud humor to high-intensity action to strained family dynamics to unexpected cliffhangers. In other words, life's twisting rollercoaster ride — amplified.

Spoiler alert #1: Subtle details in 'Volume I' are a prelude to the very dark underlying conspiratorial mysteries (plural) revealed later.

Spoiler alert #2: Some sections are raw, even cringeworthy, some rival steamy romance novels, some are morally uplifting, some seem right out of a travel magazine, some could be referenced by those promoting self-help or crisis counseling. The frequency and oscillating genres fit together like surgical gloves. The style left me intrigued for what's coming next.

Spoiler alert #3: The only chapter that didn't hold my attention had everything to do with high school football (much later in Volume III). My husband read it, recalled his glory days, and couldn't get enough. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if it is wrong.

Spoiler alert #4: Kevin keeps his black past at bay. After hit after hit, he's drawn back until he rescues Rachel from the grips of freezing to death. Everything seems rosy until, "Protect her like John did."

The collection would make great movies (plural), something in the same category as Middle-earth, teenage wizards, international spies, vampires, treasure hunters, and filthy-rich dominating womanizers. Ratings most certainly R.

Truly a literary masterpiece, I will be selecting 'My Name is Kreussenheimer - Volume I' for my book club when it's my turn to choose. It's that good.
