I read it in 10th grade and thought it was a good book that conveys a message that innocence is priceless, once you've lost it, it can never be regained.
I didn't, however enjoy his complaints about every little thing that irritated him. Things that were so trivial got under his skin and I thought at first that he was just contradictory in complaining about everything and yet, he didn't seem to do much in ways of fixing what he thought was wrong. Then I realized that he was just a normal (if a little abnormal, if you know what I mean) teenager that wants things to change for the better, but doesn't always have the resources to do anything constructive about it.
I thought there would be more sexual references and language the way my teacher sort of carried on about it, but it was pretty much just a glimpse in the normal life of any guy Holden's age.
I enjoyed it emensely and thought the symbolism was incredible.
A good read for anyone looking for a little insight.
the difference between the right word and the almost right is really a large matter. It is the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning ~Mark Twain
