After reading a few pages of the book, I decided to read your review to see if the witty writing wasn't just a ploy for covering up a poorly written story. Your review makes me want to dig in a little deeper and see just what these little scoundrels are up to. Quirky childhood tales have a way of making us reminisce of the good ol' days, and this tale almost - almost reminds me of another favorite childhood story one never tires of ... The Christmas Story. Thanks for a well-written review. I think I will continue on.

Absurdly funny is just about right. I just sampled the book and was a little bewildered by its absurdity. Im surprised the book can deal with something as serious as terminal illness. Thanks for the great review!

I like your review and the enjoyment that you got at reading this story. Based on your review, this book reminds me a little of Wes Andersen movies in the characters' uses of wit and charm. I think that a final edit would have solved the issues that you encountered while reading the book.

Masterminders

Funny! Really funny! I didn't just chuckle, I laughed out loud. Omg! "...women are genetically cursed with random bouts of madness brought about by punctuation." That explains it all.

The language popped like breathing, at a pace that kept you in. Of course some of the women comments are most memorable for me: the Black and White Pause, a bizarre condition that can last for years. I am sure men universally ask: "When will it be safe?"

I love this funny book, it is fun to read!

The concept is fresh, fun, and creative. I wonder how Terry and Bobby will go about trying to solve such global issues. The characters sound fascinating and goodness knows I could use a little lighthearted read these days. Great review!

This was totally unexpected - the sample was very funny and clever, great writing style. The two main characters are very likeable. I would never have read this book based on its cover though!

While I do appreciate a book with humor, most of the time I do not find the jokes funny. I think this book will be an exception because you state that the humor is clever and I really like the quote you added about lying! Seems like a fun read. Great job on your review!

Well, this was unexpected. I was already fearing a horror story, so happy to read that there’s lot of witty humor instead. Great review!

The Masterminders try solving such problems as global warming, women’s troubles and politics with a variety of schemes and dodges thought up by Bobby while Terry remains his baffled sidekick, whether they reach the brink of complete failure or have just a taste of success. I thought this book belongs to C/T/M/H genre based on the creepy cover. I wouldn't have thought this book has subtle humor. Thanks for the detailed review.

It looks like manga. Reading reviews and knowing that this is rated 5/5 in amazon makes me more interested. I like books with humor and friendship thats why I know I will love this.

I noted your connection of the humor in this book to Monty Python. There is something about British humor that you either like or don't and I tend to fall into the latter category. In this case, I couldn't get past the toilet humor reference on the sample's first page. Thanks anyway for the review.

The cover made me think of Harry Potter. Knowing that this book has dry humor intrigues me as well, considering that those from Britain seem to have dry, deadpan wit that makes it unique.
