That is really interesting, Sarah! Maybe you can share something on YouTube?

This book was BOTD last year and I got a free copy then. I know it is a beautiful story, but I have not had time to read all of it. Music does save. The classical kind (which Joey seemingly prefers) isn't my type, though. I can't even spell those composers' names!

Between the struggle in an abusive family, the financial struggle growing up, and a struggle to maintain one's musical passion, this one has all the elements of an epic drama.

Good to know, you enjoyed reading this book. It sounds like this non-fiction book includes the true story of a boy who lived in the depression era. In spite of being born in the middle if many unfavorable family backgrounds, Joey pursues his musical interest. Appears like, this is a well-written book, and it can make all readers happy. Thanks for the review.

Growing up with difficulties will always motivate us to work hard to better our future lives. I love the fact that Joey didn't give up on his dream of becoming a musician and this serves as a motivation to everyone who is struggling to make it in life. Thanks for your elaborate review.

I feel the story of Joey is quite emotionally charged, with a father who prefers an older brother and a mother who can't protect him from the father's mistreatment. I look forward to reading it. Thanks for the review.

Many people gave difficulties and this story sounds inspirational. Music soothes the savage beast and seems to have seen Joey through his life. Thank you for a review that conveys the depth and reality of this story.

From a sampling, this is an interesting story about a boy growing up in 1940s California and learns that music will help him in his difficult times. Well done.

This sounds like a powerful story. We always find that musicians have a hard time getting acceptance from their parents. Especially in the early days when blue collar jobs were more practical during that time. Most men were expected to follow in their father's footsteps when it came to what they did for a living.

Your review of this book is as beuatifully written as the story seems to be. Not much a fan of coming-of-age stories but this one sounds like something I would enjoy. Thanks for this enlightening review!
