This book is very emotional from the review. The challenges faced by Joey as a young boy are very realistic and traumatic. Pursuing his dream to be a musician is something a lot of us can relate to and lost love and might have beens makes the book very much worth reading. Thanks for the Beautiful review.

The piano is the second self who has accompanied me since my childhood. Personally, the music is the soul's voice, similar to poetry, painting or any other creative form. The title of the book, Tears and Trombones, is excellent and condense mien that expresses, in a realistic manner, the artist's lifestyle. This story has found its own place on my shelf. Great review! Thank you!

Tears and Trombones by Nanci Lee Woody is an #Inspirational #ComingOfAge #Fiction tale about a #YoungAdult who loves #Music despite the contradiction of his abusive father. It is inspiring that he managed to become a great musician despite all odds.

It reminds me of my vicious and abusive father. It makes me teary-eyed. Thanks for the review.

"Tears and Trombones," by Nanci Lee Woody is based on a true story. The story is about a young boy named Joey Woodman who grew up in California in the 1940's with a dream to become a professional musician. His father who drank a lot, verbally abused him and worked in construction never supported his desire to play music. His mother tried to keep the peace in the family, had suffered her entire life and wanted different for Joey, and supported his dream of becoming a musician. His brother, John was his father's favorite since they were similar so he joked and picked at Joey about his music. Joey saw his first orchestra with his mother when he was nine years old then he started playing the trombone in the school band right after. He continued to play in the school band through school until he graduated. While Joey was in high school he played football too. He meet his best friend Roger who played the trumphet when he started high school. They played in the quartet brass band, the honor band with Rafael Mendez, and the symphony together. Joey was also the Godfather to Roger 's first child. Joey graduated with a Masters Degree from Sac State before he married a woman who was is determined to have him instead of marrying the love of his life, Catherine. Joey does end up playing with Rosemary Clooney, Paul Weston, and Ziggy Elman. He plays backup for Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Gene Kelly, and The Beach Boys. This book was interesting, it flowed easily, was very descriptive, and had me hanging on to every word. I did not want to put the book down. It was one of the best books that I have read in a while. I only found a few spelling errors in the book. I believe anyone who enjoys reading about a true life story will really enjoy reading this book. There may be a few sensitive issues within the book that may call for a reader to be at least sixteen years old and older in order to read this book. I will give this book 4 * ' s simply because I cannot give it a higher rating this this.

Joey uses music as a means to escape his troubled past. His alcoholic father is ruthless, and his timid mother is too cowardly to stand up to him. Joey is also torn between the woman he loves and the one who helped him succeed.

It's hard to deny the power of music, especially its influence while we are finding ourselves. The horrors of an abusive homelife are equally undeniable. Still, it sounds like putting them together is a good way to balance a story, making it realistically heartwrenching but with hope shining at the end of the tunnel. It should make for an interesting read. Thank you for the helpful review.
