I am super excited to read this book as well. I can empathise due to the fact my dad is an alcoholic and I am never going to to do good enough for him and it has always been a hard pill to swallow. I am so excited to read about his journey breaking free from his chains, that he ultimately put on himself by not believing in himself. I have a feeling this will be a happy ending! :?

Nothings beats harder than a Mother's love for her children. I'll read this book, courtesy of your great review. This book seems to have me glued to the edge of my seat till the end.

Thank you for your excellent review!

Having only read a sample of this story, I will limit my remarks to the specific moment when Joey, the main character, is taken to his first symphony by his mother. Joeys mention of how the music both filled and moved him, reminded me of the first time that I attended a concert in Memphis, TN.

I grew up in a small rural town in Mississippi, about two hours South of Memphis, where there were no stores. The only public facilities being a church, and a small one-room post office. We didn't have cable television in our area in the early 1970's, and I had seen The Benny Goodman Story, on one of the three tv stations that we picked up by antenna.

I somehow found out that Benny Goodman was going to be playing a concert in Memphis. Similar to Joey, I begged my parents to attend. Fortunately, I had a sister living in Memphis at the time, so was allowed to attend. For a farm boy of twelve, it was one of the most exciting experiences of my life. The music was so beautiful and upbeat. It is an experience that I will never forget.

It wasn't until years later, while living in Europe, that I attended my first true symphony at the metropolitan opera house in Naples, Italy. To this day, the sound of an oboe playing, is still the most beautiful sound in the world to me.

A true story of a teen boy, Joey, passion about the music in spite of his father’s wish. He is dreaming of becoming a great trombonist who turns true. On the love front, the story also highlights his gratitude and affection to the woman is well-plotted –rather the true events of his life span. It seems an emotional story indeed.
Great review, Camille Turner. Thanks,

My parents and grandparents used to tell us stories about the 1940s. Lifestyles were definitely harder back then. I am not sure many of us could survive the conditions in which they lived. Thank you for your review.

Joey sounds like the character you would never forget. He’s had a rough life but that didn’t stop him from pushing through his dreams. This book would move me to tears for sure.

Music has always been really important to me and I can feel for the protagonist greatly - it's a difficult journey to become a musician who can fully support himself just by living for his passion. Thank you for your great review!

Vernon is quite a character. I am full of pity coming to terms that this is a true story. Tears and Trombones: by Nanci Lee Woody, is emotionally gripping. Thank you for your review.

Kudos on a well written review. The book sounds fascinating. It's hard to make realize ones goals when those you love the most not only see it as a waste of time, but also deny you the needed support. Congrats on being the BOTD.

Music is what keeps me going. I enjoy so many genres of music and love playing music that accompanies my mood or situation at the time. It sounds like the character in this book went through some hard times but in the end got to do what he loves, which is play his trombone. Look forward to reading this one. Great review!
