I like that the author leaves some subjects open to discussion (on purpose and not as mere, 'forgotten' cliffhangers). A very informative review.

A book that encompasses controversial topics such as child abandonment, abortion, and adoption. It seems to have strength in the well-constructed and varied characters. It is striking that some of the characters and events in this book come from the real-life stories of the author's students.

This book makes light on topics that are heavy. And nonetheless lives are to be impacted with such events, very heartwarming review!

A nice dramatic, touching, and also a amusing story of little Brianna and the people who adapted her is nicely presented in the book "A Child Left Behind" by Phil Hutcheon, which highlights the issues like child abandonment, abortion, and adoption. The story appears quite interesting to read.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

This book sounds like an emotionally heavy read. A poor little baby left on the bathroom floor by it's natural mother is a concept I have never been able to understand although I know such things happen! That, coupled with so many other controversial topics makes this one a little to emotional for me! Thanks for the excellent review!

The author tells the story with a narrative approach using short chapters with different speakers. Each character tells the story from his or her point-of-view, some sympathetic, some cynical, and some outright liars. They seem to be talking directly to you. There are many crazy characters. We meet Tyreke, the foul-mouthed baby-daddy, Martha, the ex-drug addict born-again Christian, Moua, the virgin Asian college-student who runs a phone-sex business on the side, and Jack, the gun-loving Vietnam veteran who lives in the garage. I loved how each character was so different in their views and speech-pattern.
That's one interesting and unique melange of characters. And the topics the book approaches, even if they're uncomfortable, need to be discussed.
Thank you for your honest review!

A child abandoned in the restroom? A book that talks about different sides of drug-use, immigration, military service, police corruption, religion, politics, and even pit-bull ownership? Sounds like an interesting tale; one I would love to read. Congrats on the BOTD.

I thought this review was interesting - there seems to be many different things going on. New discoveries, abandonment, adoption . The author includes many different characters. I’m looking forward to reading this book - definately is going to be put on my bookshelf. Some of it is from real life stories. I’m excited to see how the abandonment and adoption connect with each other . Kudos for the BOTD . Great review . Thank you

Wow! This book seems like a good read. I wonder what made the mother to abandon the baby in the toilet like that. But since you said it tackles many controversial issues, I think it has to do with politics and social circumstances.

It is a brilliant book. Captures life in our society ranging from political and social issues. The character mix is brilliant. Would recommend it for both young and elderly readers. Minimal grammatical errors and some long sentences.

It appears to be quite an interesting book as it has an array of characters and the authors use of a narrative approach providing the reader an opportunity to see the story from the point of view of each of the main characters. I realize there is quite a bit of bad language which is a put-off for me. Thanks for the great review.

I appreciated your comment about the author being "unafraid to show all sides." People can evaluate an issue when they have the truth and can see all the facts. I'm glad he took that kind of approach with this sensitive topic. Thanks to YOU for your comprehensive review!
