This story brings home the point how the Vietnam war made the men who fought, victims. Your review explains the book well. :)

First when I started reading the book it was hard for me to like the characters since I have never seen a real life suffering of such a person. But the book is so realistic that I soon found myself sympathizing with the character Luke. The book is very nice. As I read I was forced by curiosity to read more as to see what happens next. It's a very good book. Worth spending your time on.

I come from a military family that includes Viet Nam vets. Judging from the review, this book might be too difficult for them to read. They already have bad memories.

I hate abrupt endings, even if I understand why the author ends it that way. Drives me nuts!

This sounds like a difficult read, but a very worthy subject.

I'm not a reader of military tales, but for readers of this genre, it sounds like a must-read. Positive reviews on Amazon, in addition to your fantastic review. Well done!

This isn't the type of book I would normally be drawn to, but everything we expose ourselves to makes us better people in the end. I think this book will give me insight into things I am not yet familiar with, as well as help me to appreciate and look at others in a new light. Congrats to the author on BOTD!

Great review. I wish it had a better ending though. Abrupt endings spoil the entire book experience for me.
It's nice that there aren't too many grammatical errors and that the author did his research before writing- that's a refreshing change.
Thank you for sharing!

I have friends and family in the army. I'd like to read this book because it'll help me understand what it's like to be in wars fighting for our freedom.

Thanks for the review. I feel a little confused whether I would read the book or not considering the many warnings. But it is good to find it our and learn from thei experiences of the characters. Considering all cases of Post Traumatic Disorder, it is hard to imagine why soldiers had to go through that ordeal. Sharing would alleviate the healing process, though. Perhaps those of us who haven't been to was could at least empathize with them. Very informative review.

reminded me of all the war related books/plays I have read.this however is a fresh perspective though because mostly we tend to sympathize with the Vietnamese, but here we look at the other end of the spectrum and also understand two things-that war is hard for everyone and the treatment of people who return from war, when they are deemed no longer productive, more like pensioners

I agree. I've only read the sample, but there is even a lot in there that could be discussed. I appreciated not having it be a total spoiler!

I agree the writing is extremely good. That always makes a book appealing. The grimness of the book and the genre both keep me from wanting to read it.
