I am not always fond of a book with a slow start, but it is sometimes needed to build the story and characters. I don't think this book is for me, but I do believe the plot is interesting and like that racial differences is brought into the clear. Well done on #BOTD

Our choice has a way of impacting our lives. I just hope their choice won't be the end of them. Would love to read this book to know what became of Ian and Troy. Congrats on BOTD.

The slow start may discourage some, but the diverse issues discussed of sociopolitical climates is one that will engross readers who seek a much more deeper storyline. I hope to see how a seemingly noncontroversial issue will blow out of proportion to the extent that these different characters are involved.

It does sound like a whole lot of hullabaloo. Do you think the author could have integrated the backstory of the characters in another way so it didn't slow down the pace of the story? Although, learning about characters and their lives is what makes reading fiction interesting! Great review.

Whole Lot of Hullabaloo by Christopher Fried seems like a great book, but one thing that is turning me off is the fact that the book starts slow as per the review. However, I will considered reading it. Congratulations on the BOTD.

When does one need to be more respectful, when does the other need to lighten up or let go? Difficult questions and it's surely an interesting book to read and think about this.
My goodness, yes! I tell my children all the time that when I was in high school, boys would dress up as cheerleaders for the pep rally to be silly and make it funny, but today it would be completely inappropriate . I think it's sad that we take things way too seriously; we need to lighten up as a society.

This sounds like a great book to read but I'm not a fan of stories that have a slow start.

From the title, I expected something more lighthearted than the topics actually explored in the story. The author spends a lot of time letting you get to know his characters before any real controversy happens but it may change your perspective on how that character ends up reacting.

Very thorough review. I am too old for books about college life, but this one seems worth reading, since it has well drawn characters and a slow moving but interesting plot.

This sounds intriguing. I am curious how things turn out for Troy and Ian. However, I am not thrilled with reading the first half of the book! I like a book that you on the edge of your seat. I think I will pass on this one. Thanks for the great review!

I appreciate the honesty in the review about the slow start to the "action", but also the reflection about how that too was a choice the author made for a reason. It sounds like this would be a good book for anyone who too quickly sides with "cancel culture" or it's opposite. Any opportunity to get us all to remember to consider both sides and come to our own conclusions seems like a good read.

Never anything even remotely related to the term "phantasmagoria" would be my choice of thing to occupy myself with. Several occasions I tried it left me with headaches and strong feeling it was created by someone under fever or high induced delusions. Definitely not what I prefer to read and thereby I will have to pass this book. Still, congrats on BOTD!

"Hullabaloo" is a word that evokes memories of the late sixties, early seventies, hippies, and partying. I am surprised to hear what the book is really about. It is much more meaningful than I first thought it would be. Thanks for your excellent review!
