Thanks for your review. This definitely sounds like an interesting book showing what life can be like in India and also showing triumph over extremely difficult circumstances. I struggle with books where harm comes to children so I don't know if this one is for me. It seems like a very worthwhile book though.

Child trafficking is a serious theme. Sounds like a raw and tough read about real issues. Thanks for the review.

Right from the beginning, it seems like a heartbreaking story about real themes in the world, such as poverty, victimization, and the oppression of women and girls. But at the same time, it's a story that can inspire many, especially people from India. I will definitely read this book once I get a chance.

I know for a fact that many of the performers became members of the circus because they were dumped by their families. Elastic Girl deals with a heavy subject: sexual exploitation of minors but the major part is about a little girl's triumphs in the most challenging circumstances. Definitely will read it!

I agree with you about how it is written and how beautifully the main character is developed. I only read the preview but this looks like a fantastic novel. Thank you for the excellent review!

The Elastic Girl seems to talk about the place of women in rural India.
This shows the lengths desperate families go through in attempts to have a descent life. It is a book I will look forward to read if I get a chance to do so.

There are so many movies about circuses that only portray the greatness of the show itself, without any concern to what goes on behind the scenes. This book should be very eye opening. Great review!

Thank you for a great review ButterscotchCherrie on Elastic Girl. The story hooks you in the beginning where her birth is described and she is told she is unlucky because of her bitprth until she does not die from falling into a pool of water and was to save herself by crawling through a small pipe without breaking a bone. Thanks to the author for a great sample.

As fascinated as I've always been with the circus and its performers, I'm just not interested in this book, as I don't care for books about struggling to overcome adversity; I've done that enough in my own life, so I don't care to read about it, too. I am glad, though, that you mentioned that Muthu's parents do love her, even if it's not so obvious...I also think the author could have come up with something more inventive than "Elastic Girl", which sounds, to me, like a cheap version of a superhero.

Thanks for the great review. I love that Muthu develops through complex challenges to a new purpose. However, the graphic rape especially of minors, and the thought of encountering Hindu words that will leave me wondering throughout the book makes me hesitant about reading the book.

This book seems very interesting.. I'm intrigued, while the book touches some sensitive topics like the oppression of kids in circus life which include graphic scenes, I'm still very much interested in reading it
