I like this book because it reminds me of circuses back during the 1900s in America. Most were run by owners who wanted to make a profit at all costs. I like that the author was so descriptive with the environment that the Elastic Girl grew up in. The motives of the circus owner make me want to read this book to discover why he seems so creepy.

I find the "graphic references to sexual exploitation, including the rape of minors" in Olivia Rana's Elastic Girl, very unsettling. Will I read Muthu's story? Not so soon...

Nice review, ButterscotchCherrie!

The review of Elastic Girl leads me to believe I will be able to learn about another culture. I'm looking forward to that. I also enjoy stories of women who are not defeated by circumstances

This book sounds like it would be a very powerful read. I know that the topics are heavy and not always the most uplifting, but it is important all the same. Thanks for the review!

You had me all the way up to "Sexual exploitation" and "rape of minors". Maybe one day with courage I will be able to read this but right now it won't happen. However, I do love the circus and would like to read about the hows and whys.

This book looks very interesting to read.
This matter is still a problem in some third world countries. I'm sure this story is an eye opener about what some circus performers must endure to have a job.
Thanks for your review

Wow, this book closely relates to what a girl child goes through here in Africa as well, though the sensitive scenes are hard to take in its a true reflection of what is happening in the real world today. It's an awesome book.

How could a parent subject their little child to circus.. With such a high risk and little pay all in the name of poverty or what?? They should have let the remain. The elastic girl she use to be.
Anyways, I will love to read this regardless of it's graphic scenes and child molestation

Oppressive acts against the vulnerable especially women and girls have assumed a common dimension in India. This book is a good source of such gory acts. The reviewer did a good job by highlighting the basic aspects of the book.

Great review. I have only read the sample, but I thought the book was well written as well. I was drawn immediately into Muthu's world from the very beginning. I did not know some of the words but that did not stop me from knowing what was going on.

Great review. This book sounds very deep dealing with some very difficult situations. Mutha sounds like an extraordinary girl with a story that needs to be read. Thanks so much for sharing.
