This seems like one of those political suspense conspiracy theory books. Not interested.

I'm kind of curious as to what Mami and Dadi's true motives are and what exactly it means as to "who is Gato." This really isn't my kind of book, but I can see how others would be intrigued by it. Your review was very descriptive and gave a great explanation of what to expect from this novel.

Thank you for the well-written review. It would be horrible to wake up and find out you were dead! I can't imagine the mountains of bureaucratic red tape that would ensue. I too wonder why the family suddenly feels like helping this particular vagrant and what the dynamics are in this story. Definitely want to read.

I can see what you mean by "character driven". Even though George and Alexia might be motivated in part by guilt, it seems at the end of the day both the couple and Gato get to benefit mutually from their newfound relationship, learning more about each other and the the worlds they come from. Thanks for the informative review!

This novel is certainly complex with the different motives involved. It sounds like Jesus, George, and Alexia will learn a lot after their ordeal of trying to get the S.S. money back. This is not my mind if book, but congrats on BOTD!

The cover reminds me a little of Citizen Kane. Sounds like it will be a interesting story. I'll definitely check it out.

I don't believe I've ever read a novel quite like this one. Having been a (much more minor) victim of bureaucracy myself, I'm interested in how this unfortunate situation ultimately plays out and I'm intrigued by who, exactly, Gato turns out to be. It sounds like the thorough characterization and the author's insight into human nature would make this a very satisfying read. Thanks for the great review!

Great review. In these times of identity theft, the idea of losing your identity as in the case of Gato is scary. The Social security assume him dead wrongly, he can't access his funds. In the midst of it all he is able to get assistance from his neighbours. This sounds like an interesting story given the main character's predicament .

I like the author's description of Gato as "down, but never out." The sample shows Gato trying to make money in both honest and creative ways. He lucks out as George and Alexia get over their earlier misgivings and suddenly want to open their house and hearts to him. Will their kindness eventually make Gato a better man?

I expect to be moved by this book.

Wow, I think while growing up I run away from literary novels, this reminds me of the likes of Shakespeare and rest, even though its a lil different. The review shades light on the book so I have a lil idea of it but still my mind isn't accepting it.
Congrats BOTD.
