I like your review and I agree with your rating. I like the conflict and tension between paganism and Catholicism. June is also my favorite character because of the way that you described her as independent and confident about her own abilities. I applaud the author for taking on topics like gender bias and sexism. Today, we still deal with these problems, but back in the 1950's it was much worse.

This book reminds me of a movie known as Matilda where a gifted girl had grown in a harsh family that she was adopted by her school teacher. This book seems to be well written as you noted.
A lot of lessons are learnt about treating gifted children in the family.
An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.

It sounds like a good book! June is a psychic who is rejected by family and friends. Catholicism has also been emphasized alot. There is also the fight for gender equality by Cathy. I will read this book soon.

This sounds like an interesting book with many different struggles in it: the struggle for equality in a paternal world, the difference between religion and paganism, the struggle with loneliness. These are some very powerful themes.

Such an insightful review! June's psychic powers developed at a young age. While she received help from different people, I wonder how her growth as a child was affected knowing that she was different from her family.

I love your review and this sounds like an amazing book I would consider reading. June sounds like she'd be my favorite character too just looking at a few things she endures and how strong she gets.

Very interested in reading this book, but to sink in the atmosphere of unhurried life in previous century, it must be done in certain mood. Nowadays authors mostly give life to characters which often make reader wonder - are they MR? To read story about people of strong personality and will must be true pleasure.

I also read this book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I found the pacing a little slow at times, but I thought this added to June's story in many ways. I'm unsure why you chose to rate the book 3 stars; it's unclear from the review what you disliked. However, I'm glad it seems like you agreed with my thoughts about the well developed and relatable characters. Thanks for the review!

June being different from other in her family, having psychic ability and telepathy is cool. Having such powers doesn't mean the person is a witch or wizard and I understand the fear humans have to those with abilities in which they show through hatred and discrimination. Jimmy's way of thinking about female is unacceptable. We are all equal and a family without trust and understanding is bound to fall apart. Lovely review.
