Thanks for the review, but I really dislike stories about people - real or fiction - having to overcome tragedies, so I'll pass on reading this.

This looks like an enthralling read, it might also not be an easy read. The right ingredients all seem to be present based on the themes, plots and sub plots. Working for a family member or one's father usually presents it's own set of challenges. I like the review and I am convinced to give this book a go. Congrats to the author on #BOTD

This sounds like a heavy drama. I’m not sure about reading this at this time, maybe in the future. Thanks for your review!

Thank you for a wonderful review :) This book has definitely piqued my interest so I'll be reading it sometime in the future. I like that it has many subplots, I find that usually makes the book much more enjoyable.

This sounds like a very interesting read! I would really like to see how mental health terminology plays into the characterization. I might give this one a read, given that I am a big fan of books about grief, loss, and soul searching!

Thank you for your thorough review. I'm glad you mentioned the bit about graphic violence to animals -- you had me interested in the book until I read that. I'm really happy you spared me the terrible surprise!

It sounds like one year in the life of Bernie Perkins was a "tough journey" as the title implies. There are a lot of components in this story that are tough, such as anger, grief, and violent murders. I am not sure that this book is very uplifting for me to read. I will have to pass on this one.

I see the book seems so sad. I guess, this book is not for me because of some stories might trigger my anger. Thanks for telling so.

I don't think the cover actually does justice to the story contained within. A tough journey should have a cover of a place that would actually be a tough journey not a beach at the ocean. I mean something could be said for turbulent waters but put a boat in a storm on the cover trying to get back to shore, As for the long drawn out descriptions to finally get to the middle of the book where it actually starts to make sense,I think will cause people to lose interest and not pick up the book again.

This book is classified as "other," which I would agree with, but it is also so much more. There are multiple romances, a series of violent murders, and an enthralling mystery that involves Bernie Perkin's neighborhood in Huntington Beach. Initially, the book appears to be a story about the tumultuous relationship between him and his father, who is also his boss, but it becomes so much more. There are many sub-storylines throughout this book, which ends as a romance. This sounds baffling, but instead, it makes the book engaging to its core.
Seems like this book has a little bit of everything. No wonder its classified as "other". I always admire authors that manage to really develop and connect many subplots and genres.
I enjoy personal stories and, especially, those ones with well-developed characters.
Your enthusiasm shines through your review and I appreciate it, thanks!

A tragic story where the protagonist Bernie faces a tragedy and loses everything under mystical circumstances, but he struggles to find himself. The story seems to have an inspirational message for its readers.

It sounds like a book that would be emotionally taxing to read. It's not one for the faint of heart.

A Tough Journey
by Evelyn Cole

I almost skipped getting the copy of this book, but I decided to read the part of the book Amazon supplies. These few pages of writing are incredible and caught my attention. I can't wait to read the book. I like when bullies "get theirs'.

Thank you for the review. It seems that the author has done a great job with the images and emotions that his novel evokes as well as with his characters, particularly Bernie's inner journey. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like the kind of stories I'm interested in reading.
