I highly recommend "Clarrie Hancock" by Evelyn C. Rizzo, a truly engrossing novel set in pre-war and World War II era in the industrial north of England. This gifted writer immediately pulls you into Clarrie's world, a world inspired by the author's own life, and you won't want to leave! You will find yourself caring deeply for Clarrie as her keen intelligence and depth of spirit guide her through life's difficulties and spur her on to reject society's low expectations and stifling class labels.
