Welcome to the village of New Petrograd. It was often referred to as a sleepy village, as nothing exciting ever happened there. In fact, they did not even have a sheriff for their village! However, everything changed when Marvin and June Palmer shifted there in the hope of finding a quiet retirement home. They were followed by two unshaven and unkempt men who docked their boat at the shore and looked for work in the village. As expected, the two men were hired for renovation work at Marvin and June’s new house.

Now, let us meet the protagonist of this story, Phil Filipov. He is the lighthouse keeper at New Petrograd. He has known most of the residents of the village since his childhood and now considers them as his family. Since he knew nothing about the new residents, he decided to pay more attention to them. When he noticed that the two new men were behaving suspiciously after getting the job, it concerned him. To add to this, he noticed that June had been roaming around in her garden extremely late at night. Does Phil have anything to worry about, or is he simply overanalyzing their actions?

I usually read books when I am stressed out, since they help me relax and de-stress. Lighthose in the Mist by Heather Graham, Loretta Scutchings and Diana Van Geffen helped me achieve this. I thought that it was a quick and light read. Further, the author has used simple vocabulary and sentence structures throughout the book, which made it extremely easy to follow. Although there was an element of suspense in the plot, it did not stress me out. While I had my guesses, I did not feel the need to constantly form conjectures about why the characters were acting a certain way.

I had two minor issues with the book. Firstly, I thought that the book had a rather large number of supporting characters. While I understood that the author was trying to describe the strong bond between all the residents of the village, I found it difficult to keep track of all their names. However, this did not affect my understanding of the main plot. Secondly, I came across numerous minor grammatical errors. While they were not major and I could understand what the author was trying to say, they interrupted my flow of reading.

I rate the book 3 out of 4 stars. I thought that the book was light and that the plot was refreshing. I could read the book in one sitting and was glad to have read it. Unfortunately, due to the editing errors and the confusion caused by the large number of supporting characters, I cannot rate it 4 out of 4 stars. The book has elements of suspense, romance and historical fiction. I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of these genres, and is looking for a quick and fun read.

I like the idea of this book already! There's something about small coastal towns that I find appealing. And they make great locations for a mystery, just like Cabot Cove in "Murder She Wrote." This is one I'll definitely keep in mind. Thanks for the review!

Quick and fun reads are a great way to de-stress. I'm glad that this book accomplishes that. It sounds like the village kind of has a Mayberry feel to it, but close to the ocean. I'll have to keep this one in mind.

Too many characters seems to be a flaw that a lot of books have these days. It really is difficult to keep them all straight, especially when the names are unusual (which happens when the book takes place in a foreign land). Still, it sounds like a really interesting plot that's worth plodding through all the characters for. Thanks!

It sounds like an easy, lazy day kind of read. I am curious if Phil's suspicions are valid. Are the characters unsavory and up to something? It kind of reminds me of a mix between Murder She Wrote and Rear Window. Thanks for the great review.

Great review. I read to de-stress by reading as well, so I can relate. The abundance of characters in this one may have the opposite effect though  . I like tight narratives personally, but you really presented some great points on why this book is worth reading.

Sounds like a light and interesting read. I like such books and would give this one a try even in spite of too many supporting characters. The name "New Petrograd" is intriguing to me! :) Thank you for this great review!

When I saw the title and saw your description, I thought this was going to be a very intense book and that you would have trouble relaxing with it. I'm glad it didn't stress you out. This seems like a good book to read. I do like suspense and I may have to take a look at it. Thanks for a great review!

I haven't read a good mystery for a while. This sounds like a great short read to me! I'm intrigued by the newcomers and what this means for the village. Coming from a small village myself, I wonder if I'll find this relatable or not. Great review!
