Call Me Pomeroy by James Hanna is a satire about a man who is a veteran and has been in and out of jail for various reasons. He has dreams of becoming a famous musician and tries his best to put himself in the spotlight. However, he always gets himself into trouble one way or another and ends up arrested most of the time. He’s very narcissistic and has these insane delusions that every woman he meets is desperately trying to sleep with him.

Pomeroy is definitely one of a kind and one of the things I liked the most about this book was how he always came up with different ways to say that women had the hots for him. There were so many clever little phrases used that usually rhymed and it was proof of how witty the author is. Another thing I liked about this book was how Pomeroy does things his way. He might be a bum but he’s a bum with a certain set of morals. Even if he’s homeless he still takes the time to tip his waitress well if they’re nice to him and refuses to sit around if he sees a woman in trouble.

It’s honestly hard to decide what I disliked about this book. I personally don’t like the books that I read to have so much cursing in them, but Pomeroy’s character wouldn’t have been the same if he had a clean vocabulary. I also try to steer clear of books with heavy sexual content, but I felt as though the innuendoes were handled tastefully. They were more a source of comedy than anything else and I found myself laughing at them.

I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars. It was written in a way that made it easy to read and easy to get drawn into. It was edited well, and I only noticed a couple of typos. The main character was very unique and interesting. Definitely an anti-hero of sorts but one that you found yourself liking. Overall, there was no reason for me to rate this book any lower than a 4 out of 4 stars.

This book is geared towards more mature audiences. It does have a lot of cursing throughout the book as well as sexual references. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone who is easily offended by strong language and inuendoes. However, I feel that anyone who enjoys satire and unique characters would like this book.
