Review by C-obi -- Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon
Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon is a story, that centers hugely, on the epic adventures of a young girl named Sarah. Sarah had been taken by her grandmother to stay with her grandfather, Tom. Tom, had as guests, William, his friend, and Myra, William's daughter, when Sarah visited. Tom intended to take a trip into the nearby valley where he had buried his grandfather, Bob-bob, retrieve his hidden backpack, and burn it. More importantly, he wanted to bury an ancient artefact he found amongst his grandfather's belongings, after he had been buried. His decision to do so, was to honour his late grandfather. Tom was persuaded by William, and Myra, to take Sarah with them. Tom reluctantly agrees. Sarah wanders off, out of anger, in the course of their journey, and gets missing for eight days. Whilst been searched for, Sarah goes on a terrifying epic journey into another era, with lots of mind-blowing encounters. The book in summary, tells of her adventures, and it's correspondence to all other issues raised in the story, including the battle for ownership over the land where the ancient artefact was found.
The book was simply an epic thriller. It had a short, but very engaging storyline. The enormous details attributed to Sarah's experiences, made it difficult to believe that she actually experienced them over a span of eight days. The plots were described in great details, and it wasn't difficult to imagine the scenarios, as they played out. The characters were presented in simple, concise language, that made their personalities very easy to understand, imagine, and follow. The plots were well-described, and intricately linked in an amazing manner. The story plot had a reading tempo that heightened progressively from the beginning to the end. Not left out were the moral values portrayed by the author, which included a strong attachment to cultural values, and one's roots. The story emphasized to a great extent, the possible feat achieved by the ancients, that has paved the path for the current status of the world in which we now live in. A lot of correspondence, was attempted in linking the activities of people from ancient times with the geographical paths that now exists in various parts of the world. The storyline also had lots of humor dotting its pages. I must commend the author for an amazing work on highlighting the possibility of child abuse, especially by step fathers, not just towards their step daughters but also towards step granddaughters as well. I loved the way, Fletcher Lynch's character was exposed. He happens to be Sarah's step father, and her grandmother's second husband.
The book was also well-edited, and I found no errors.
What I loved most about the book was the graphical description of Sarah's experiences during her epic adventures. I found Sarah's character quite intriguing. A combination of bluntness, being fearless, being calm, and exuding artistic creativity, are rare among young people today. I disliked nothing about the book.
I am rating the book 4 out of 4 stars. It was an amazing story. It kept me spellbound from the beginning to the end.
I am recommending the book to avid readers who are archeologists, biological scientists, anthropologists, and anyone who loves epic-centered adventures.
