Help: Trying to finish "The Way of Kings" by B. Sanderson

Am I missing something?
I've read the first 300 pages of Brandon Sanderson's "The Way of Kings" which came highly recommended through not just actual friends, but also through critical acclaim and so on and so forth. What am I missing?? I've meandered to a stop with this book and simply cannot seem to get interested in it. Has anyone loved this book? I did have high hopes for this cross-genre Sci-Fi/Historical/Adventure novel, but I must say, it has really fizzled for me.
Believe me, its not for lack of trying! I've dragged this book all over the place in hopes that stark boredom might get me to persevere and get involved in it--but it's simply not happening. I can think of only two books I've quit on in my lifetime---The horrible "Sacred Hearts" by Sarah Dunant, and "Sarum" by Edward Rutherford. Unless someone gives me some motivation (ie. "...keep at it, the good stuff's coming!") I think I'm going to give this book a high place (as in, out-of-reach) on the shelf.
Cheers for now,
~Asher
