Luke and Lucy had an accident on their way back to Atlanta. Luke is a Surgeon. Lucy is a lawyer. At the site of the accident, a body was discovered the following day. Lucy was accused of manslaughter. She needed Luke’s help and cooperation during the investigation for the case to be dropped and be pronounced not guilty by the jury. Luke did all he could to help Lucy out of the mess. Fortunately, Lucy didn’t go to jail. Unfortunately, she lost her job. Eventually, the two made vows and became man and wife. A few days later, while at the honeymoon, Lucy got a call that her charges were dropped and that she could resume working.

One day, after returning from the honeymoon, Lucy broke the news to Luke that she’s pregnant. Luke was happy about the news, but Lucy. She even threatened to abort the unborn child. A few years down the line, Lucy fell for someone else. The love was so intense that she wanted him more. Luke, on the other hand, found someone whom he loved and wanted to spend more time with her. How was life like after Luke and Lucy’s Separation?

Narrated from the third-person point of view, The Spirits of Want by William H. Coles is a captivating Legal and medical drama story that’ll grip the reader’s attention from first to the last page. Additionally, the narration tone is conversational and hearty. Furthermore, the story is fast-paced, suspenseful, and is coupled with some thrilling plot twists. Noteworthy, the writing style is excellent. I didn’t notice any grammatical errors. Both short and complex sentences are well-balanced. The amount of vocabulary used is plausible.

I enjoyed reading through the legal terms featured in the book like, pro bono, subpoena, jury, indicted, and deposition. The terms reminded me of one of my favorite legal drama series, Suits. Furthermore, the narrative is perfectly painted with intriguing metaphors. Moreover, the character descriptions are incredible for the fact that the author identifies all physical features and how those features affect the surrounding environment.

All characters are well-built. The characters manifest the spirits we witness in the world today. For instance, A.J (Lucy’s dad) is a qualified ophthalmologist. He is arrogant, egoistic, and violent. His greedy attitude caused him to lose focus. As a result, he was caught up in a scandal that even his son-in-law, Luke, couldn’t save him. These qualities couldn’t let him have a healthy relationship with his colleagues at work and his family too.

Lessons drawn from the story are as follows;
1. Wealth, power, and career can’t bring lasting happiness.
2. “One covering over his transgressions will never succeed.”

I beg to differ with the view some characters have about war. They believe war promotes peace, but on the contrary, it’s destructive, and the results are heartbreaking. The only way to promote peace is by eradicating bad people from the surface of the earth. Ultimately, I find the idea about men performing miracles distorting. Personally, I don’t believe in miraculous healing in the current era.

My disputes are personal. I won’t take away one star from the four stars. The narrative is promising and realistic because it reveals the attitudes manifested by many people in the world today. The book is exceptionally edited. Additionally, the story highlights traits like domestic violence, racism, legal development, family drama, religion, career, and medical thriller. For the diligent art of imagination done by the author, I rate the book at 4 out of 4 stars.

I recommend the book to readers who enjoy reading drama-filled stories.

Wow, you brought up a perspective of this book that I have never read before - Lucy and Luke's love-story. Almost had me reaching for tge book. The lessons drawn are quite relevant.

I like drama but not love stories. You've really done a great review on this book that apparently brings me to the point of going through this one.This due to the ups and downs of Lucy and Luke relationship.
