Provoked To Anger, by Cheray Gardison, is a Christian novel that explores several problems that affect young people growing up. It traverses themes of rejection, betrayal, loneliness, and suicide. Cheray Gardison leads us through the lives of Marissa and Jeremy to show us how the devil uses dysfunctional families and relationships to ruin the lives of many young people and their parents alike.

Jeremy falls in love with Marissa, a classmate, after hanging out with her during another classmate's funeral. However, after a while, he realizes that Marissa has a lot of 'baggage' that does not allow her to be in a romantic relationship with anyone. Problem is, he loves her too much to just let her be. After stalking her for a while, he begins to feel rejected. It also does not help that he feels that his mother does not care enough for him to talk to him about his 'Marissa' problem. He also feels that his mother intentionally hides the identity of his father. This leads him to try and kill himself which takes him to hell and back. Marissa is no different as she feels that her mother does not care for her but rather hates her because she (Marissa) slept with her mother's boyfriend, Roy. Her self-hatred puts her in a situation where she is abducted and sold off to prostitution.

This is a well-told story that depicts and accurately portrays the lives, relationships, challenges, and emotions held by many young people today. Jeremy's reaction to Marissa's betrayal and rejection is one that I would understand and relate to a little. He did, however, go a little overboard by insulting his mother and friends but it was easy to understand his reasons. I believe that this was the most potent part of the story – that it is easily relatable to everyone.

There was very poor character development, however. Only one side of a character was narrated. I understand the reason behind this, but I felt that the story could have used a little more development in this regard. This was one part of the story that I liked the least. It made the story seem rather forced to fit the narrative being told by the author.

I will give this book the highest rating of 4 out of 4 stars. It was a well-written book that captured a lot of emotions making it a powerful read. It was also very professionally edited as I only came across one grammatical error. It will be enjoyed by avid readers of Christian novels and readers that would love to read about people with similar psychological and mental problems to theirs.

I'm not really into the religious aspect of the book, but it does sound like an interesting character study, at the least. I feel sorry for Marissa because her situation is terrible and I do hope she came through to a better life.

These are important themes for this age group and for all readers to reflect on. The full rating, in spite of the one-sided character development, is encouraging. This looks good. Thanks.

I read the book called "Head Trauma" by the same author. I feel her belief in God come through for her and her characters. I was hooked to the book and finished it in one sitting as I was intrigued by the character of Michelle Mckenzie in the book. So I can see why you must have enjoyed this book. Your review throws an interesting light on the book.
