Charlie Sheldon's Strong Heart is the first novel in the Strong Heart series. It's about how the environment influences a young girl's behaviour, making her have a completely different and strange attitude towards the world.

Sarah, a thirteen year old girl has been through a lot. At this young age, she's angry, bitter and mean towards everyone and everything. Family is the cause of her heartache. When her mother dies, she is left with her father who can't really take of her. She ends up being tossed from one foster care to another. This changes her for the worst. She becomes rebellious and mischievous. Her behavior has to be contained in juvenile and she hates everyone around her. Circumstances lead her to her grandfather, Tom, who's going to change her perspective of life and give her a sense of belonging. Olympic National Park is where most of their drama unfolds.

Friendship and loyalty dominates this book. Tom has cool friends, William and Myra who later become Sarah's friends as well. They always go camping and this hobby didn't start just now, they've done it since Myra was younger. When Sarah is brought to Tom, she finds them preping for an adventurous mission and they let her join in. She doesn't really know what she wants but she still tags along. William and Myra also help Tom in taking care of Sarah.

Major thing I loved about this book are the flowing conversations. They are full of life, witty and flow with ease. The characyers have nicknames, William is referred to as Walleye or Eye. The landscape is vividly described and you can actually visualize the flowing rivers and the mud. There is also a map on the first pages of the book that aid in directions and better understanding. The characters are interesting and relatable. Myra depicts a responsible young woman who's out there looking out for his not so strong father. Tom is a retired soldier who comes home to a broken family and Sarah is an angry child with a sad past.

Charlie Sheldon brings adventure into our lives and lets is live it. He includes mystery which gives this book a special thrill. Sarah gets lost in the woods and whatever she discovers on her own is magical.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The writing is flowing with minimum errors in editing. The errors didn't distract my reading enjoyment though. I recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing read.
