When reading a book about adventures embarked upon each year by a group of four men, one would not expect to encounter a story about not only adventure and excitement but about life, love, feelings, and conquering them all; but that is exactly what you get with Man Mission by Eytan Uliel. This tale encompasses the life of our narrator and his three best friends as they take an annual weeklong trip challenging themselves to the most exhilarating activities they can manage. Mixed in throughout the stories of their adventures are the trials, tribulations, and achievements met throughout each of their lives.

This extremely well-edited book, was easy to read, as though reading our narrators actual journals about his life and his trips. However, it still contained a wide variety of vocabulary and large words to create the feeling that the narrator is well educated and to keep the reader interested. It is important to note there is a level of profanity, the first instance being on Page 6 Line 14 wherein it is stated, “In jumping to conclusions, I’d been a judgmental ass” and continues throughout the story from there.

I most liked the descriptive and educated language of each place the characters traveled. It created an ability to picture it while seeing and feeling what they were. I also greatly enjoyed the “MM … Statistics” given at the end of each trip. Although I did not agree with or appreciate all the choices the characters made, well, it’s their life and those are the parts that make the story real. Plus, a tip of appreciation to Mr. Uliel, even the story lines I disagree with are well written and evoke great emotion.

Man Mission creates a unique way to address a very real problem in our ever changing world: What does it mean to be a “real man?” It does so beautifully all while creating fun, enviable characters and adventures. Everyone should read this book; it will give men an insight into the fact that all people have problems and feelings and need outlets to deal with them, and it will give women an insight into the secret world of men. Finally, it shows everyone deep friendships and adventures to aspire to.

The story was captivating from the very beginning and had me laughing out loud, my eyes filling with tears, and me whispering to the characters when they made questionable and even terrible decisions – 4 out of 4 stars.
