Review by Browlyns -- Man Mission by Eytan Uliel
Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is an entertaining story full of epic journeys, adventures, friendship and emotional support from four great friends. This book’s focus is on man’s world, that is; how they think and behave under the pressure of marriage, advanced age, etc.
Four young friends are in college one day when they decide to come up with a tradition that once every year, they will travel to new places and participate in activities such as trekking, ice climbing, biking, kayaking, etc. These missions take them to places like the jungles of Africa, the Inca trail in Peru, Fiji and Greenland. In the period of fifteen years, the four friends grow old, get married, some divorce and some separate, some lose their loved ones, and some thrive while others struggle. In these missions, they expose themselves to danger like coming face to face with drug dealers in the wilderness of New Zealand, sustaining injuries, Laughing and crying together. It is a story of four men as they face challenges the world throws at them.
I have read many books and have to confess it is seldom to get books dedicated to men. The themes of this book focus entirely on men; the characters face complex and universal challenges that are similar to other men of an independent lifestyle. The flow of the story is smooth, fast-paced and emotional triggering keeping the reader hooked to the book.
What I liked most in this book is the author’s uncanny ability to make the reader keep on turning the pages. The characters are three dimensional and well enhanced by their deep emotions and unique traits, this helps to maintain the concentration on the book. As much as this book is full of humor and entertainment, its main purpose is to enlighten, advise, encourage and comfort the target audience.
What I enjoyed least in this book is the author’s tendency to spend so much time and words stressing on a single issue. This causes the story line to drag a lot making the reader lose focus. The book is professionally edited as it contains minor typos and errors, which did not interfere in any way with the flow of the story. For this reason, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
This book contains minor instances of borderline profanity, therefore; it is suitable for readers of all ages. It will appeal more to the male readers as it addresses issues and challenges men face, as they grow old especially, pressure in marriage and midlife crisis. It gives tips on how men should understand themselves its like attending a one-day men’s therapy session. Women who want to understand the psychology of men will find this book interesting, the author accurately captures the man's behavior and emotions. I appreciate this because I am a man and I related strongly with the challenges that the characters face. It will help women communicate effectively with their partners.
