[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "3:53 a.m." by Nocomus Columbus.]

This book was not what I would consider to be a book, I found it to be more like a short story, or short novella. The story is about a young man discovering who he is at a young age, but not really recognizing who he is, or what he is capable of until he is much older.

The story is set in a small, religious, seemingly prejudiced town in the south. The scenery is somewhat descriptive, but the story flashes around so much it is difficult to tell the actual setting. In addition, it is difficult as a reader to get a feel for the scenery, or what the narrator is trying to describe.

The story takes rapid twists. The narrator unfortunately speaks in several tenses, making the plot (if there was one) very difficult to follow. Sometimes the narrator of the book is describing what is around him, but at other times it is as though the narrator is experiencing some kind of out of body experience, or someone else who is witnessing these events is telling the story.

There are several graphic images to the story. I believe that if the images were followed up with sort a clear cut message to the reader, it *may* be the start of a truly great idea.

However, my personal recommendation is this: If you would like to get emotional whiplash, I *might* suggest reading this story; otherwise, as someone who loves to read, I would say skip this one until the idea behind the story becomes more well developed. :?

I rate this book 1 out of 4 stars.
