I found Jan’s families to be a very good book, telling the story of Jan and how she is putting the pieces of her life back together after the death of her husband. I found the story of Jan to be very heart-warming.
The plot of this book is about Jan and the years after the death of her husband. Surprisingly I didn't find the main theme of the book to be about death, instead I found it to be about new life and change. The plot was quite fast-paced which I found to be a good thing as it proved to keep the story interesting.
There are a lot of different relationships in this story and they are not all family related relationships either. I enjoyed reading about Jan developing friendships with different kinds of personalities. Jan owns her own salon and you can tell she is an easy-going character as you progress through the book and see how easy she gets along with clients and listens to their problem, Jan did not complain about her clients spilling their sorrows to her, she listened and gave good advice to them even though she had her own issues to be dealing with. Jan’s relationship with her sister is not great to say the least, to be honest I found myself hating Jan’s sister but it seemed as though a lot of people felt sorry for her I could completely understand why Jan struggled with her relationship with her sister.
I found the character development in this story to be very realistic, the author Barb McIntyre made sure not to forget about the other characters personal development as well as Jan’s. In only a few years Jan will gradually develop into a new person with a different perspective on life in general.
I really liked the writing style the author used, it was easy to read and interesting. I found the author to have a very unique way of writing; she managed to add in the perspective of different characters throughout the story with Jan still remaining to be the main character.
I loved Jan’s families and I would highly recommend it to women. I am going to give this book 4 out of 4 stars.
