What is the Mission of a Man? Man Mission is Eytan Uliel's story of self-discovery and growth in life...unveiling his mission, his journey, down the path he travels every year throughout the wild, exotic places of the world with his comrades.

The Man Mission starts as a week-long getaway for Eytan and his buddy, Sam, in the beautiful countryside of New Zealand, and, with the addition of his other two friends, Alec and Daniel, morphs into a yearly undertaking with the goal being, to hurdle challenges of endurance and prowess in the mountains and valleys, volcanic fields and unpaved roads of our diverse and glorious planet.

From the grasslands of Africa to the frigid glaciers of Iceland, he and his friends find the wild beauty and danger of life not only in the landscapes they traverse but also into the un-mapped inner recesses of their spirit.

Pushing themselves to limits of pain and endurance, they awaken to the truths they know inside themselves; who a real man is and what he is capable of achieving.

Side by side with his account of the Man Missions, Eytan speaks intimately of his personal life and the challenges he faces as a husband and father; the pain, heartache, and eventually, self-acceptance he goes through as he works to meet society's standards of what and who a man should be.

I enjoyed most the purity and beauty of the words Eytan uses to describe this 15-year journey of life. I found myself musing on the different scenarios he experienced throughout the day. He delves deeply into his psyche to deliver a heart-wrenching and courageous account of his journey in life. His descriptions of the different locations are deep and powerful; I felt I was seeing them alongside him.

I am very impressed with this book. I will be keeping it in my library to read again at some point. This is high praise from me; a book has to meet certain criteria to be placed on the re-read list.

Reading the mixtures of humor and pain, delivered with stunning eloquence and spot-on editing, I settled on a score of 4 out of 4. Literally, I can think of nothing I did not like in this book.

The language was strong, at times, with profanity and very intimate explanations of life as a man, and so, for those reasons, I would not recommend this book for younger readers. I highly recommend this book for mature men and women who understand the personal and complex nature of human sexuality and intimacy.
