Man Mission: Four Men, Fifteen Years, One Epic Journey by Eytan Uliel is a highly captivating story full of adventure, brotherhood, and personal growth. I was hooked right from the start. It all begins with a plan between friends to take an annual trip to experience exotic foods while completing rugged activities, men only. But it grows into much, much more after fifteen years of crazy missions and life changes. It is the ultimate story, and it reads just like a movie!

The book is broken down by location, one chapter for every trip. From hiking in New Zealand to cycling in Japan, and trekking in Peru to ice climbing in Iceland, these characters test both their physical strength and personal relationships. Fifteen years is a long time to be taking such adventurous trips, so there are many a joke told as these men get older and realize what they are physically capable of, most notably the narrator. Fifteen years is also a long time in terms of life in general. The four men enter the story as young and fresh boys just entering the work force. But over time you get to see them grow and change and learn how to be men. They find love, get married, bring in new life, experience heartbreak and loss, and come together in the most trying of times. Each celebration and struggle adds to the layered story.

My favorite part of the book is the male perspective. It is so easy for me to choose a book written from the perspective of someone like me, a woman. I love reading books by women. However, this book provided complete honesty with a bit of humor in a way that was refreshing to me. It was simple, yet profound. It was stupid, but brave. Hilarious and heart-breaking. You could feel everything the characters were going through, each up and down. I could not imagine this story told any other way.

It is hard to find something negative about this book. The editing was solid. The character building was great. But if I have to choose something I liked least, I would have to mention the flashbacks. At first, I struggled to keep up with the story due to the frequency of the flashbacks. However, with time I got comfortable with the format and quickly realized that these flashbacks were in the right place, each one critical to the story.

Man Mission: Four Men, Fifteen Years, One Epic Journey by Eytan Uliel is an outstanding book. I do believe that this is one of the best books I’ve read to date. With that said, I rate it four out of four stars. The story was written and edited extremely well. I laughed. I cried. I felt like I was on the journey with them. It was all so seamless and so real at the same time. I would avoid reading this book if profanity is not your cup of tea. However, I feel like this book could provide a much-needed mental vacation to many readers, and I highly recommend it. I cannot sing its praises enough. It is a truly wonderful read!
