Official Review: Seoul-Mates by Pamela Fernandes
GENRE: Interracial Romance (subgenre: Suspense)
SUMMARY
Katia Rosario is an Anglo-Indian doctor working In Seoul, South Korea, following the man she loves. Already dealing with a society and land that does not accept her, he shatters her world by marrying someone else. Jihan Kwan is a prominent, ruthless South Korean business man, and a sworn enemy of Katia’s ex. He is attracted to Katia and sees the damage done by her ex-boyfriend. They venture into an arranged marriage where their motives clearly are not for love.
Or are they?
Combined with the stress of cultural differences, being in the constant public eye, and a dark enemy from the past, will they overcome their obstacles and find common ground? A whole series of misunderstandings, shady dealings, and meddling forces make it difficult to see what is both in front of them: true love.
CRITIQUE
The story is written clearly with very little dilly-dallying. The novella starts out a little choppy, popping back and forth between scenes, but quickly progresses after the couple agrees to marry. Pamela Q. Fernandes does a good job of explaining Korean intricacies but not getting lost in them and stalling the plot. This is much more than an interracial novel about overcoming differences. It is written in more of a chick lit style (not a lot of smut), but with a lot of drama. The added story line of an enemy from the past keeps you reading page after page.
Katia is very kind, forgiving, and innocent, but she can also be sassy. Jihan is a very loving person, despite his ruthless reputation. The author does not focus as much on the cultural differences in the story as many other interracial romances (which appeals to me). The dialogue between characters is very well done, although the punctuation in the story can make you stop from enjoying parts of the story. Another thing that miffed me a bit was the final sentence in her story. Do not read that line first, though. You should read it from the start, because the novella that good.
It is a quick and easy read. I was actually surprised by how well written it was. It quite reminded me of watching a Korean drama. If you like romance (or Asian dramas), you should pick it up to read. I give it 3 out of 4 stars because it is good, but some of the characters could have been fleshed out a little better, and the last sentence of the story is still driving me nuts.

Thanks so much for the review. I do love Asian dramas myself and I'm glad you enjoyed reading this. Too bad about the last bit. (wink wink)

If its not too much to ask can you please post this review to amazon or goodreads as well?
Thanks a lot.
