[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Mister Pushkin Sees The Light (Tales Of Mister Pushkin Book 1)" by AC Michael.]
Mister Pushkin Sees The Light (Tales Of Mister Pushkin Book 1) by AC Michael is a book that contains 12 different tales about Mister Pushkin, the cat. Mister Pushkin is not like other cats, he is different and unique. He has luxuriant purplish-blue fur and golden eyes, and he is constantly getting into a lot of trouble. His owner Klem is very protective of Mister Pushkin and won’t let him out of his sight. All Mister Pushkin wants to do, is have a chance at exploring the outside world all on his own, without having to wear Klem’s leash. Join Mister Pushkin as he desperately tries to escape into the open world through the windows. Will he manage to get out without Klem finding out? Each hilarious tale will take you on an adventure with Mister Pushkin.
What I liked about the book, was that it consisted of 12 short stories in one. I think this is a great idea because it keeps the reader interested, and the book is at a faster pace. There’s no chance of you getting bored whilst reading this book because at least one of the stories is bound to get you laughing. Also, I liked that we were reading from the point of view of Mister Pushkin because it’s really fascinating seeing what he thinks about humans and what he gets up to as a cat. For example, it was really funny when Mister Pushkin described the plumber as being the “most irritable plumber on the planet”.
The book is a light read, which makes it perfect to read in one sitting. The author primarily focuses on Mister Pushkin and does not go in-depth on any other character, this makes it easy to follow along. Furthermore, the author’s descriptive writing is amazing, a perfect example of this is on page 55 when the author is describing the sunset. “Then the sun began its stealthy descent, becoming dimmer as it fell, turning the sky into shades of yellow, then orange, then red”, the author beautifully captures the vision of a sunset here, it’s almost like you are there witnessing it yourself.
I enjoyed every aspect of the book, and so there was nothing that I disliked. The author didn’t use complicated words, so this makes it easy to follow along and read. Also, this means that children can read this book as well. My favorite scene from the book is when Mister Pushkin sneaks into Ruth’s apartment through a hole in the wall, and then he proceeds to eat the food she was preparing. I thought this scene was very amusing.
Overall, I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was a great read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The book is professionally edited, as I did not find any mistakes. The book contains no profanity, so this makes it suitable for children to read. Due to the length of the book and the long sentences, I would recommend this book to 8-13-year-olds.
