That Summer by Sarah Dessen is about a fifteen-year-old girl named Haven who feels that she can't stop growing and hates it. She is already six feet tall and growing. Her parents are divorced and her dad is never around; he's too busy with his new wife.

Haven remembers what happens in her life not by the month it happened in but the guy her sister, Ashley, was dating at the time. Her sister has finally found a suitable (and boring) guy to marry and Haven is sick of her life revolving around their wedding. Haven just wants to have a good summer but is stuck being part of this wedding and dealing with her fathers new wife, the 'weather pet'.

Haven is working all summer and during that time she runs into one of her sisters old boyfriends, Sumner. Sumner was the only boyfriend of Ashley's that Haven truly liked and she doesn't know why Ashley dumped him.

This summer for Haven is all about her life changing, and she hates it. Haven changes dramatically throughout this book and I really liked her by the end of the book. (Spoiler): She finally tells everyone why she's so upset this summer and stands up for herself. She's finally not a push over and decided that being that tall isn't so bad. She finds out why Sumner went out of the picture and it makes her sympathize with her sister for once.

I really enjoyed this book because there was so much character growth (in a good way). I feel that I can relate to Haven because I've always felt that I was too tall and awkward. By the end of the book you feel that you really know the characters and there is also an unexpected twist at the end. There is no romance in this book for the main character which I liked for a change because you hardly ever find a book without a love story (so clique). I highly recommend this book for someone looking for a short but satisfying read!
