Review by black panther4 -- Hello, My Love by Evy Journey
Hello, My Love, just as the name suggests is a romance novel. Authored by Evy Journey it is the first book in the Between Two Worlds series. This isn’t a typical love story where boy meets girl, girl meets boy, they fall in love and live happily ever after. Here you’ll find several things interesting. So without further ado, I’ll begin with it.
Elise Halverson is a stubborn, intelligent, and independent woman with a mind of her own. She is a law student when the plot begins and is determined to become a criminal lawyer. She had her life all planned out, but things didn’t turn out the way she wanted. Enter Greg Thorpe an ambitious man and playboy supreme. He was already engaged to Lori Williams before he met Elise. A one night stand between him and Elise, just two days before his marriage to Lori, changes both of their lives tremendously.
Greg breaks off his marriage the very next day and Elise becomes pregnant unbeknownst to him. The fact that made their lives change wasn’t solely the one night stand. That night they discovered something else than the attraction they felt. They realized their love for each other. But the future held so many obstacles in front of them and they parted ways. The plot then quickly zooms forward to two years later, when they finally meet again. Only then Greg realizes he has a son and is overjoyed. But life wasn’t exactly planning to go easy on them. When Greg broke his marriage off with Lori, she became venomous and swore to make him suffer. Elise had accepted a case to defend a guy against a thug gang. Enemies swarm around Greg and Elise posing several problems for them. The rest of the plot continues with how they undergo the obstacles that awaited them.
My favorite character in the book is Elise’s mother. When Elise breaks the news of her pregnancy to her parents, they were devastated. After the initial shock, her mother takes her under her wing. She supports Elise and grows closer to her daughter. Another aspect I appreciate about the book is the way Elise handled her pregnancy. It was admirable how she confronted her parents and sought their help.
Despite the amazing storyline and characters, a few things left me frowning. At some points, the plot felt rushed through. For instance, there is only a vague idea about what happened to Greg and Elise during the two years of separation. I felt that a few more details would have been more enjoyable. Another instance is their honeymoon in Paris. Nothing about it was mentioned. Nevertheless, the ending was satisfactory, and overall the book was entertaining and engaging.
I rate Evy Journey’s Hello, My Love, four out of four stars. Minor profanity was used on a few occasions and I could spot only a single error. The book was edited quite well. There were a few sexual encounters but it was very brief and wasn’t detailed at all. I recommend this book to those who like romance novels with a lot of twists and turns. This book makes you think from every character’s perspective. It is a good read, and you wouldn’t want it to slip through your fingers.
