Review by SwissKeener -- Hello, My Love by Evy Journey
Hello, My Love by Evy Journey is a modern-day romance novel set in the San Francisco Bay Area. The two main characters of the tale are Greg Thorpe and Elise Halverson. Greg is in his early thirties, has successfully taken over his father’s business, and is known for his cavorting with women. He has a reputation as a regular playboy.
Elise is a young, attractive law school student. Her studies are all-consuming, and she has no interest in starting a romantic relationship. This all changes though when Greg hires Elise’s father as a consultant for his company’s employee benefits program. Greg soon begins frequenting the Halverson’s home regularly for meetings and dinners. Before long, sparks start to fly between Elise and Greg. The only real issue is Greg’s upcoming marriage to Lori. Things get messy but interesting from there!
I particularly enjoyed the author’s style of writing. She made the characters come alive with her descriptions and their dialogue. She captured the true essence of their thoughts and emotions. She had a way of describing their feelings that was truly interesting and not at all boring or repetitive. The relationship that grows between Elise and Greg throughout the story elicits all the new-love feels in the reader, including butterflies in the stomach and having your breath taken away. In fact, the story takes us on a ride of various emotions throughout: love, anger, disappointment, heartache, rage, fear, and guilt.
As with most romance novels, this book included various sex scenes, and I was most impressed with the way in which the author wrote about these encounters. She captured the beauty of each moment and in no way made any of it seem vulgar or inappropriate. In my opinion, this indicates true writing talent.
One negative comment relates to the part of the book in which Elise and Greg reconnect after an extended period of separation. Their eventual reconnection is desired and expected by the reader; however, it takes place so quickly. More realistically, Elise would have been more cautious before jumping full-fledged back into the relationship. The reconnection should have been more drawn out, in order to build back the friendship, the trust, the ease, and the ability to share their confidences.
As a whole, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It was a feel-good story with a satisfying ending. This novel was well proofed and professionally edited. I would recommend it to anyone interested in contemporary romance. Due to sexual innuendos and sexual content, I would also recommend it for a more mature audience. I rate it 4 out of 4 stars, and I look forward to reading more books from this author.
