I give this book a 2 out of 4. It drew me in, but because of my busy schedule, I didn’t love the book. I read it, but I wasn’t as engaged in it as I wanted to be. I do like reading, but occasionally I do have to take a break for awhile, then go back to reading.
From what I read, I found that it was very interesting and made me want to at least try cross-country skiing. I haven’t skied or done any kind of winter sport. Reading this made me want to be more adventurous.
If you are looking for a good, adventurous, real life story then Beyond Birkie Fever by Walter Rhein is the book for you. As a non-fiction autobiography, Beyond Birkie Fever is interesting. It is about America’s greatest cross-country ski race: the American Birkebeiner, or “Birkie.” Thousands of people compete in this ski race. Beyond Birkie Fever is the story of how America’s magnificent cross-country ski marathon can expand your horizons and be the gateway to experiences beyond anything you’d ever hoped to imagine.
Most of the time, when people read the titles of books, they think it won’t be a good match for them. The truth is, most people judge a book by its title or cover and think it will be a bad book. It’s similar to watching a movie and telling others that it sucked. Only the viewer or in this case the reader can be the judge on whether something is good or bad. Remember, if you judge a book by its cover, then you might miss out on a pretty good book.
I will leave it up to you to figure out if you like this book. This book might suit your needs or it might not. If you don’t like now, then later on you might come to like it. All you have to do is flip to a random page and read it. From there, you can figure out if you want to start at the beginning and continue reading or stop reading the completely.
