Backcomb & Tattoo is a beautiful novel portraying the lives of four women, Aunt Mary Opal, Rachael, Jesi, and Nicole. Authored by Shea R. Embry, the plot depicts them bonding with one another and how they face their own problems.

Aunt Mary Opal is a tough woman who had undergone a lot in life. She suffered at the hands of her abusive husband for her children’s sake. She fought cancer on her own. Meeting the three young girls gave her a new meaning in life. But cancer returns again. She had just grown close to the three women who lit her days. Will Aunt Mary Opal be able to fight cancer for a second time, now that she has three young friends to support and love her?

Rachael had been living in the shadow of her rock-star husband for too long. She felt ignored and lonely and lived a life of misery. Then she met Aunt Mary Opal and her new friends. With them, she felt alive and loved. She is kind and sweet, who will do anything for those she loves. Will Rachael be capable of breaking the chains of her withered marriage and rise to the freedom life has to offer?

Jesi is the fiercest of the four. She says things as it is and is strong. The death of her brother and Noni was horrifying for her. She loved them both, and it was hard on her. Commitment has always worried her, and she never stayed in one place more than once. Meeting Aunt Mary Opal, Rachael, and Nicole had changed her life more than she can imagine. Will she be able to settle down in life and love, with the help of her friends who meant everything to her?

The last person to join the group was Nicole. She was on the verge of giving up her life when she met Aunt Mary Opal, Rachael, and Jesi. Her meaningless marriage with a woman who drained her emotionally made her lose the will to love and live. She is sensible and understanding. The sweetest of the four, she loved the three women who saved her from her darkness. She loved Jesi especially, but her previous marriage had scarred her. Will she be able to open up and accept love once more?

The moments these women had together were precious. They all had secrets. They all had trouble. But they also had plenty of love to share. The plot is very realistic, and many readers might be able to connect with either one of the four women. People seeking a meaningful and realistic plot will enjoy what this book has to offer.

I rate Backcomb & Tattoo by Shea R. Embry four out of four stars. The book was edited professionally. Profanity was used. The book contains minor erotic content and lesbianism. The entire book felt like an emotional journey. Touching and meaningful, the book taught me to enjoy the small things in life and accept life for what it is. Ups and downs. Sometimes life is worth fighting for. Appreciate yourself and accept life. Good things come to those who wait.

This book sounds very challenging, but mostly energetic. I can learn a thing or two from these inspiring women. Nice work.
