Review by Priyanka2304 -- Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon
Wondering about the evolution of earth and its inhabitants leaves us in great awe. The late archaic humans and other extinct species that ever existed on this planet have survived the battles of power and politics just like the way it is prevailing today. Only through excavation, the epochs of earth can be surfaced which can very well diffuse the mystery buried deep below. Tracing the stars to navigate and patterns of the changing seasons were the only tools the ancient people had to keep them alive.
Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon is a story of a teen named Sarah who, through mysterious turns of events, truly came across her true self. When Tom (Sarah’s grandfather) and his friends (William and Myra) were heading for an expedition, Ruth (Tom’s ex-wife) appeared on the door unannounced, holding Sarah, and gave Tom the responsibility of tending to his stubborn and ornery granddaughter. They took Sarah along, unknowing of the fact that this decision was about to bring a sea change in their lives.
This marvelous piece of imagination takes us to the wilderness of woods and waves. The main character Sarah who was a misfit in her own world, among her own people, finally finds her true identity in a different world thriving beyond the mountains. She braved the brutality of nature, wild animals and people, and emerged as a ‘Strong Heart’. What changed her, living in that embattled place for a few days, is something that will force the reader to root for the last page.
This book is scattered with stories told by different characters, and truly reflects the huge importance of story-telling in human evolution. After all, stories are what make us human. The book also documents killing under the name of power, and the fittest one survives. It's strange to know how conflicts and disagreements between groups can wipe the weakest off the face of the earth. That’s how civilizations develop and sustain.
While reading this book, I couldn’t find any moment when I was not thrilled. I was leafing through every page, always wondering in curiosity what happened next. I was able to picture every scene vividly in my head just by reading, as the author has done a wonderful job in breathing life into the environment and characters through the carefully picked words.
I would happily award 4 out of 4 stars to this amazing book. This seems to be a kind of book which we can see getting featured as a motion-film. If the reader has already read the book ‘Sapiens’, he will be able to relate the back-story more easily. I couldn't find any errors that stopped my reading pace, and the book seemed well-edited. This book will interest the ones who love adventure and thrill with a great story-telling.
