The "Decoy Princess" is based off a journey through redemption for a young woman called Tess. She is the princess of a far away kingdom and life is everything that she had ever wanted. She even has a betrothed waiting to meet her after hundreds of long heartfelt letters. However, life isn't what it seems after her betrothed kills her parents and sends her scurrying for her life. She realizes that the only way to help save her kingdom is to get rid of her betrothed with the help of her old mentor and friend.
Dawn Cook is a brilliant writer when it comes to this book. She gave Tess a fierceness that we all want, but also gives her wants and fears, making her come to life in a way that is so difficult for other authors to do. In this book, you cheer and hold back screams as the richly detailed environment sweeps you away, without the details being so heavily handed that they get in the way of the reading. Other, smaller, characters also are given life with dimensional backgrounds. Excellent read for young adults and adults alike.
