Proud To Be Me: Rosalinda Part 2 by Jesse Moreno is the second book in the series featuring Rosalinda “The Rose” Escobar. Readers continue to follow Rose’s rising career as a championship boxer. In this volume, the author invites readers to consider another aspect of a boxer’s career. Rose confronted several strong contenders, but she also faced a new challenger. She must overcome some disturbing relational difficulties. How could Rose concentrate on training for her next fight when her heart was in turmoil? Would perturbing emotional conflicts shatter her boxing career?

Rose continued to accumulate successes in her career. The day she had been waiting for since the beginning of her boxing career finally arrived. She faced her nemesis, “Echo.” She would also participate in a unification fight that would join the World Boxing Council with the World Boxing Organization under one championship belt. Practices and training were going well until the slightest suspicion of a betrayal began to grow and take root. She could understand her competitors' attempts to intimidate her. How would she be able to fight against duplicity by those she trusted?

In this second installation of the series, the author developed Rose’s emotional background, addressing how a person’s psychological well-being affects the physical side of life. Rose fought with her hands in the ring and with her heart outside of it. I liked the way Rose became relatable with her relationship struggles. It drew the reader closer to Rose and helped to understand her as a person outside of the ring. The author gave vivid descriptions of Rose’s training and sparring sessions. Round-by-round narratives helped readers visualize her fights. These descriptions counterbalanced the emotional rounds Rose fought in her heart.

It would have been helpful for this second volume to provide background information about some of the characters from the first book. Who was Rob, and why was he so important to Rose? The book had many spelling errors and did contain some mild profanity and insinuations of romantic scenes.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The author moved the story forward at a good pace as Rose trained and went up against new opponents. The intriguing settings changed as Rose traveled to Las Vegas and Rio for her different fights. A well-developed plot highlighted a candid message that the boxing ring isn’t the only place where fighting skills are needed. Readers who prefer sports-based themes would enjoy this story. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy strong female characters who never let anything keep them from accomplishing their dream.

I am not a spot fan, but you see that aspect of Rose fighting in her heart, that's something I will love to see.

The psychological elements interest me but I am unsure whether I could commit to the extensive descriptions of Rose's choice of sport...

Thank you for such an informative and insightful review! :)
