Review by Vivienne2000 -- The Spirit of Want
The Spirit of Want by William H. Coles
When getting married, what pushes you to it? Is it love, lust, power, traditions or to pay a family debt? Lucy got married too Luke to neutralize his statement when she is faced with a law suit for vehicular manslaughter. Later on, there is nothing to grasp in their marriage since she’s bent on working too hard. She has never felt love, never appreciated love, never felt like she belonged in any place. She almost aborts her unborn child because she doesn’t want to be ‘distracted’. Her father A.J disowns her for her many mistakes. He is later faced with many charges against him. Will they succeed to bring him down, or will it be their downfall they are planning?
When Lucy gives birth to Jennifer, she has little to no time for her. She takes on a case, a child molesting case, defending Hower Bain. She falls in love with him, or is it sexual lust? This leads to her being disbarred. Hower goes to Africa to work there as the law suit is being dealt with. While there, they have a major disagreement and Lucy leaves for Atlanta to restart her life. It is hard to start over in an area that holds so many memories. When she relocates to California, she is lucky enough to get a job, which she screws up. How will Lucy regain control of her life and make the right decisions? Is she ever going to experience love and also love genuinely? Read this book to get to know.
I loved the suspense used by the author all over the book. It captures and holds the reader’s mind from the start to the end. I also loved the vivid description used by the author when describing the characters, places and even how something was arranged. It helped create a visual picture in the reader’s mind, helping even more in the understanding of the book.
The author used this book to teach and install some values in the society. Through this book, we see the importance of marrying for love and not money or lust or any other reason. Also we are taught of the importance of being with our partners even when challenges pop up. We are taught how to persevere with some problems and not hold back when the other is doing wrong. The author manages to teach us a great value of sticking with the right thing even if it will cost you your job or position or even family.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book was meticulously written with no grammatical or typing errors. The plot was lovely and enticing. There were also no instances of fast-tracking of the plot. The author wrote it well enough for the reader to follow through till the end.
I recommend this book. It is a lovely one, one obviously with many values taught in between. It is appropriate for people over the age of 10 years old. It has no erotic scenes whatsoever and no bad words used. This book is appropriate for people of all religions and non-religions.
