[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Deepwater" by Suzie Louis.]

Deepwater is a fictional story about a young couple living in a rough area of Sydney, Australia. Rejected by her parents after getting pregnant, seventeen-year-old Louise leaves home to live with Harry, the father of her baby. Twenty-five-year-old Harry has the ability to take care of Louise with the income he earns from his controversial job as a bookie's debt collector. Although she is treated horribly by almost everyone in the neighborhood, Louise is mostly happy. Harry loves her and treats her well, and there is one woman, Prue, who lives on their street, who befriends her. Prue has problems of her own, however, and her friendship to Louise ends up helping both women in ways neither one of them could ever have imagined.

I really enjoyed this story. The characters were dealing with circumstances that were truly awful, and I admired their strength and courage. It was a story of great friendship and love. I found myself not wanting to put it down. There was depth to both the story and the characters. When I finished it, I found myself wanting to find out what happened next. This, however, does lead me to my first problem with the book. I felt like it ended rather suddenly. I would have preferred a few more paragraphs, or at least a few more sentences, to really feel like the story was over.

Another issue I had was that there were a lot of grammar and punctuation errors, as well as a few spelling errors. This wasn't a deal breaker for me, but I did find it to be a bit of a distraction. It also gave an unprofessional feel to the book.

However, the biggest distraction for me was the way the story was laid out. While I like the writing in general, it seemed to jump around from one scene to another, without any signal or warning that this was happening. I repeatedly found myself a sentence or two into a paragraph, only to realize I was reading about a different character in a different scene. It really pulled me out of the story every time this happened.

Overall, I gave this 3 out of 4 stars. While there were some issues that gave the book an unprofessional feel, I really did like the story. It kept my interest throughout the whole thing. I would recommend it to people who aren't too worried about encountering errors in a book, and just want to enjoy a good story.
