The book I read was Facebook Jeanie by Addison Westlake. It is a fictional novel about a woman named Clare. Clare’s life is not going at all how she expected. She is stuck in a rut, fantasizing about how life would be if she stayed with her ex-boyfriend, Brad, from college. He is gorgeous and rich, everything a young woman would want right? She is so set on the past she doesn’t even realize she is ruining the present.
One day a woman shows up to her job telling her that Facebook is testing a new program on the iPhone and she has been chosen as a candidate to try it. After a particularly terrible night, she decides to see what it is about. She wakes up in her college dorm room years earlier. According to Jeanie, she is allowed 3 attempts to redo her life back then to hopefully get the guy and change her life for the better. But, sometimes what we think we want isn’t what’s best for us. Cue Clare’s new life, which turns out not how she expects over and over.
Sometimes the unexpected turns out to be a great surprise. Follow Clare’s life as she makes attempts to secure the future she always wanted or should I say never knew she wanted. The lives she is thrown in to are definitely interesting to say the least. It is funny how one small change can abstract her entire future. It is crazy how things right under her nose were easily overlooked.
This book was a good read. Although a little predictable, it was able to grab my attention and keep me wanting more. It was also easily relatable since I grew up during the time period it is set in. There are also a lot of references to present day items, companies, music, and fashion.
I would give this book a three out of four stars. The reason I would only give it a three is because although it was interesting, it was also a little cheesy and predictable. Don’t expect to be blown away by an amazing story. It is not complicated at all. The writing style seems very common and unchallenging. I would have enjoyed it more if there were some unusual twists and turns. I would recommend it to young adults who can relate to the story and young woman who like a fun and easy read.
